Nowadays one-ways links and directories are given high importance than the link exchanges or reciprocal linking, which are not any more used by SEO’s until its of utmost importance.

Previously, in SEO, when a reciprocal link is given, they add the “no-follow” attribute. But nowadays, search engines no longer support this. So here the search engines companies have done a good job changing the search algorithms accordingly.

Also when it comes to SMO (Social Media Optimization) some websites has started no follow attributes. Recently Digg added the no-follow attribute to external links, which applies for comments, user profiles and story pages. But still its only applicable for some links and not for all.

On Page Optimization is one of the important things that needs to be taken care while developing the website and content. On-Page Optimization is nothing but “On the Page Optimization” which means optimizing the content within the page. There are certain important factor that needs to be check-listed while doing on-page search engine optimization (On-Page SEO). They are

1.) Title Tags

Optimizing the title tag is one of the important elements in SEO. Title Tags are the first things that are shown when the search engine indexes a web page. The title should be given more importance and appealing enough for the searcher to click the web page to know more information.

Title Tag should be descriptive with the business / site name and the keywords that provides the flavor for the entire content. The title should be descriptive as well relevant to the content of the page, with proper target keywords.

2.) Meta Tags

Meta Tags include Meta Description and Meta Keywords. Meta description should contain the information relevant to the business / services, which would explain the business or the web page’s purpose in a short line.

Meta Keywords – the terms that are used / searched by the users.  When choosing keywords keep in mind it should be relevant to the website content, and think in the customer’s point of view, to provide the right keywords. Don’t stuff the keywords and keep repeating the same keywords in the keyword tag.

3.) H1, H2 & H3 Tags

H1 – Heading 1 – can be used for some important title or section of the page

H2 & H3 – Heading 2 and Heading 3 can be used to provide sub-titles or post titles

The above mentioned tags will provide good prominence in search results. Also Bold words would also increase the prominence, hence search engine gives importance those keywords highlighted in bold text.

4.) Hyperlink , Anchor Text & Alternate Tags

Alternate text are used while hyperlinking specific keywords. For example, for the keyword “online marketing” the alt text can be “internet marketing” with the link taking the target website.

Anchor texts can be provided for internal linking. Internal links can either be hyperlinked or can be provided with anchor link, bases on the length / topic of the content. Internal link is also considered one of the important thing in SEO.

In this way, the images also can be optimized having proper naming convention for title , linking with the right appropriate alt tags.

5.) URL Structure

Many do concentrate on the conent , keywords alone and forget the necessity of the url. The url can also consist of certain keywords. Say for example, I want to speak about PPC, then what I would do is create a folder called “internet_marketing” and inside this folder will create another folder as “seo” and then would put the content, naming my file as “Pay-Per-Click”. So my url structure would be /internet_marketing/seo/pay-per-click.html

This url optmization also fetches good result :)

6.)  Content & Keyword Density

Though nowadays keyword density is not considered that much important, but still it is good tohave the relevant keyword in the content as well, appearing atleast once. The content should have the keyword, proper h1, h2, h3 tags, hyperlinks and so on as discussed above.
